Brief Summary:
Join the bushwalking team for a scenic journey exploring some coastal walkways on Sydney's northern beaches. Learn about overnight hikes in controlled environments. We aim to complete at least 10 km of hiking over the weekend. Suitable for entry level participants. One or more bushwalking guides will be available to provide support. * Pay on the day for your camping fees at The basin campground $12.50 per person.
Additional Information

This practice journey will be from Avalon Beach to Palm Beach wharf via the coastal walkway. Later in the afternoon, ferry to The Basin campground (NPWS) on the west foreshore of Pittwater located in the Kuring gai Chase National Park. On Sunday, if time permits we may walk to West Head lookout or Barrenjoey headland. We aim to complete at least 10 km of hiking over the weekend, mainly on footpaths and bush tracks. Public transport is available to and from the venue.

Pay on the day for your camping fees at The Basin campground $12.50 per person. Additional cost: bring an opal card, money for ferry ticket x 2 and self catering applies.

Self catering applies and public transport is available to the venue. It is easy-medium grade but there are climbs over the headlands which can be tiring on sunny days. The route is exposed in places and sun protection and hydration will be a focus over the weekend. The route has road access and drinking water at regular intervals. If the Scouts would like to swim there should be time over the weekend. This would be under direct adult supervision in addition to the buddy system. If you would like to swim please bring swimmers, boardshorts and towel.

Bring an opal card for the train to Wynyard and bus to Palm Beach and ferry ticket money (opal card not available). Prices of ferry tickets will be advised to participants. FantaSea Cruises Palm Beach to The Basin Child $8.10, Adult $16.20 + charge for bag may apply.

This practice journey is aimed at Scouts and Venturers. Please note Leaders, Rovers and Parents are welcome to join us as helpers. Youth members can participate without their section leaders as activity leaders will be providing direct and or remote supervision for the duration. Participants coming by train are encouraged to travel in small groups and travel in the guard's carriage marked with a blue light. Scout uniform is not required however please wear your scarf.
