Additional Information

The Woodford to Glenbrook Walk along the Oaks Fire Trail is one of the classic long-distance hikes in the lower Blue Mountains National Park. Covering approximately 30 kilometres, the trail follows a wide fire trail that gradually descends from Woodford to Glenbrook, making it an excellent Scout hiking adventure.

Along the way, participants will experience expansive ridge-top views across the lower Blue Mountains and surrounding bushland, as well as a constantly changing landscape of sandstone escarpments, eucalypt forests, and spectacular lookout points.

Our journey will begin at Emu Plains Railway Station, where we will travel by train to Woodford. From there, the Adventurous Journey officially begins with a day of hiking just over 12 kilometres to Wheel Gully Campsite, where we will spend our first night.

On the second day, we will continue to walk about 13kms along the Oaks Fire Trail, passing through some of the most scenic sections of the route before arriving at Euroka Campsite, where we will spend our second night.

On the final day, we will walk about 7km to make our way to Glenbrook via the Glenbrook Causeway before catching the train back to Emu Plains Station.

Scouts can provide a hiking backpack, shared tent, and stove if required. Please refer to the attached packing list for further details.

Scouts are welcome to register; however, previous lightweight camping and bushwalking experience, together with a good level of fitness, are essential. Participants must have achieved OAS Camping Stage 3 and OAS Bushwalking Stage 4 (or higher).

Attendance at the following preparatory sessions is mandatory:

• Online planning session – Sunday 5 July at 7:30 pm
• In-person pack check and gear weigh-in – Thursday 9 July at 7:30 pm at the 2nd Kings Langley Scout Hall

The cost of food and other incidentals will be confirmed closer to the event and will be discussed during the online planning session.

This hike will be remotely supervised by Scouts-appointed Guides.

This promises to be a fantastic adventure through some of the Blue Mountains' most beautiful landscapes. We hope you can join us!
