Brief Summary:

The 1st Carlingford Scout Section organised this Royal National Park Hike (3 Days, 2 Nights) to support a scout completing his Adventurous Journey for the Australian Scout Award. Please note the activity is planned and led by a youth working for the Peak Award. This hike goes from Wattamolla picnic area to Heathcote Train Station and has a total walking distance of 38.4 kilometres. Participants travel from Wattamolla picnic area to Heathcote Train Station during early January in the school holidays. During this hike. Scouts will have the opportunity to explore the royal national park. Scouts will visit Wattamolla Falls, Karloo pools, and undertake a scenic cliff top walk to views of the headland at Port Hacking Point as well as mountain top views including Uloola turrets. Scouts and Venturers are welcome; however, previous lightweight camping, bushwalking experience, and good fitness are required. Bushwalking OAS Stage 3 and above is recommended. The $30 Camping fee is non-refundable.

The Route (appx. 38.4km):

Start time: 9am at Wattamolla picnic area, 8th January 2027

Day 1: Wattamolla picnic area to Bonnie Vale Campground, Bundeena by 3.45pm (appx. 17 km)

Day 2: Bonnie Vale Campground to Uloola Falls Campground via Whaleback Rock 4:15pm (appx. 16 km)

Day 3: Uloola Falls Campground to Heathcote station Carpark via Karloo pools (appx. 4 km)

The event will present Scouts with knowledge and skill development opportunities for OAS Bushwalking stage 4-5 progressions. Develop confidence in Bushwalking activities.

This activity is not for novice bushwalkers.

Good fitness and bushwalking skills will be a requirement to join the event.

An Adventure Activity Guide remotely supervises this event.

Since the activity is planned and led by a Scout (youth), leaders will not intervene but indirectly/remotely supervise the Scout patrol.
