What is Cuborette?

GWS Cuborette is a weekend long camp for all Cub Scouts and Joey Scouts over the age of 7.5 years where you can meet other youth members from all over Greater Western Sydney Region, have some fun and adventure completing lots of exciting activities and learning about the world around you as we explore the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals!

Who can come?

The event is open to all Cub Scout aged participants (8 to 11 inclusive) who are registered with or transitioning into a Cub Scout Unit at the time of the event.  Joey Scouts over the age of 7.5 are also welcome to attend as part of a Cub Scout Unit. Parents are not required to attend with Joey Scouts.

Scouts, Venturer Scouts, Rover Scouts, Leaders & Fellowship members are welcome to attend and help deliver this amazing adventure for our younger members either as a line leader or service leader (See the section on staffing below.)

We welcome groups outside of Greater Western Sydney Region to apply to attend the event and we will accept Out of Region Groups if we have enough space at the Activity Centre.

Activities

Cuborette will deliver some great activities that are based around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Scouts all over the world have embraced these goals to take action to create a better world by ending poverty, fighting inequality, and addressing climate change.

Adventurous Activities planned include both Rock and Water activities. These activities will be supervised by Scouts NSW qualified activity leaders.

Other activities will be supervised by Leaders of Youth and will be fun and exciting. They will encompass a range of areas from the environment, creative, social, construction and more.

Camping

Camping will be in Units that are made up of Cub Scouts from all over Greater Western Sydney Region.  We will make every effort to group Cub Scouts from the same Scout Groups together in the same units. Each unit will be self sufficient and will be managed by a Unit Leader chosen by the Cuborette HQ.

Junior Service Leaders and Service Leaders will be camped in their own Sub-Camp.

Staffing

Each Unit will be supervised by 6 leaders and will be supported by up to 3 adult helpers. Staff members will be allocated to Units based on preference, once applications for the event close.

The remaining leaders, parents and adult supports will act as Service Leaders, helping to deliver activities, catering, sites, logistics and providing support to the event.

Junior Service Leaders will be supervised by Leaders of Youth and will help Service Leaders deliver Cuborette.

Catering

Catering for Units (Cub Scouts, Joey Scouts & Line Leaders) will be done in each Unit. Your Catering cost is included in your total camp cost and units will be provided a budget from Cuborette HQ.

Service Leaders and Junior Service Leaders will be catered for through Cuborette HQ.

Please ensure that all dietary requirements are included on your e-permission form and that we receive these ASAP so that we can make sure we cater appropriately.

Membership Training & Requirements

All members must remain financial and registered within ScoutLink from the time applications close until the end of the event.

All service and line leaders over the age of 18 must be cleared by Scouts Australia NSW to work with children and young people prior to the start of the camp. This includes any adult helpers who must have submitted an A2 form and been accepted by the group prior to the event closing date.

All Adults attending the event (including Adult Helpers) must meet Scouts NSW Child Protection Requirements, including registration with Scouts NSW and having completed the Child Safe Scouting and WHS for Scouting online modules.

Arriving at Cuborette

Arrival at Cuborette will be set by your Unit Leader and will either be Friday Night or Saturday Morning. There is a possibility for some of your unit to arrive Friday Night and others on Saturday morning, your Unit leaders will advise of your options once applications have closed.

Feeling Safe at Cuborette

Everyone in Scouts, youth and adults alike have the right to feel safe and be protected from abuse. No-one is allowed to threaten you, hurt you, or touch you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or afraid.

A Scout is respectful, and this applies to all interactions between all participants, youth and adults at Cuborette.

You do not have to deal with abuse on your own. If you feel unsafe, threatened, or you see/hear something that causes you concern, please speak to a Leader or Rover on an activity. Your concerns will be taken seriously. The information you provide will be shared with people who can support and protect you.

If you don’t know what to do – speak to someone at Cuborette HQ.

If, for any reason, you do not feel the concerns of this nature which you raised at Cuborette have been satisfactorily dealt with, please report your concerns directly to the Child Protection Team at the NSW State Office on 02 9735 9000 or via ChildProtection@nsw.scouts.com.au or your parents.
